This one was used for a promo flyer for Amazing Arizona Comicon 2014 in Phoenix, AZ. We're hosting a
Mad Tea Dueling event in which the audience can challenge the various characters from Alice in Wonderland
to a duel. You can't see my ears in this picture but I'm playing the steampunk Cheshire Cat. There's
Bryan P Miller as the Mad Hatter. And that's Johnna Buttrick as Alice. Caterpillar, White Rabbit, Dormouse, the Jack of Hearts, and the Queen of Hearts will also be in attendance.
The challenge is set out by the Red Queen, Madame Askew, of the Tucson Steampunk Society.
Khurt Khave, the Dirty Weasel, heartily accepts!
Victory! Khurt Khave soundly defeats Madame Askew with a 3-0 upset in front of a capacity crowd of approximately 140 people at Phoenix Comicon 2013. Accused of cheating when he
achieved an initial 2-0 win in the Best-Out-Of-3 grudge match, the Dirty Weasel consented to another duel, proceeding to triumph with a 3-to-nothing sweep! The audience was in a frenzy.
Everybody loves a winner!
My first duel at the Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention 2013 which takes place at Old Tucson Studios. I am the Main Stage Director for the convention. The main stage being located in the saloon, naturally. Ah, my home away from home.
Of course, I lost to a much more experienced combatant. But I learned a lot from that sad day. I would go on to hone my skills and discovery that I had a natural talent for the pastime, once I understood the subtle nuances of how the game is played. Things your opponent will not share with you.
Which is what prompted me to author A Steampunk Guide to Tea Dueling.
So that anyone can play, and have a level playing field, or table, as it were. To no longer be shackled by the convoluted, superfluous rules of the obsolete elite.
Nay! Those clandestine precedents are gone! It is a game for the people, and I have given it to them. Secrets shared. Lies revealed. Tips, tricks, techniques. You too can be like me. A tea dueling champion.
